Obituary of Robert F. "Bob" Rowen

Robert F. “Bob” Rowen, 80, husband of Mary F. Zielinski of Peabody, died Tuesday March 6, 2007 in Salem Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Rowen was born on August 4, 1926 in Salem son of the late Bernard and Margaret (Foley) Rowen. He was raised and educated in Peabody. During WW II, he served in the United States Army as a Corporal with the 39th Infantry Division and saw battle in Central Europe. Mr. Rowen was employed for 38 years at Eastman Gelatine Corporation in Peabody until his retirement in 1984. Bob’s life was dedicated to his entire family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Leo Council 508, the Peabody Council on Aging and the Golden Agers, St. Michael’s Society and the PLAV Post 63 all in Peabody. As hobbies, he enjoyed traveling and bowling. In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by a son and 2 daughters-in-law, Dennis C. Rowen and Kathleen Mahalares of Peabody and Audrey Dalton of Hamilton; a brother, Charles Rowen of South Carolina; his grandchildren, Alix Rowen of Hamilton, Heather and Louis Fejes of Georgetown, Jennifer and Nicholas D’Orazio of Byfield, Christine and U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Glen Lichfield of Virginia, Joshua and Cecile Rowen of Salem and James Mahalares of Peabody; 5 great grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan and Meagan Lichfield of VA, Jaysen Rowen of Salem and Andrew D’Orazio of Byfield; several nieces and nephews. His son David A. Rowen and his siblings Leo Rowen, Louise Suchecki and Kathleen Mannix pre deceased him. His funeral will be held on Monday March 12, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (new location) Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers MA 01923.
