Obituary of Lawrence M. Ball

Lawrence M. Ball, 81, of Peabody, died Friday afternoon at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Marilyn (Perkins) Ball with whom he shared over 56 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Melvin and Marion (Derby) Ball. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1943. He has lived in Peabody for the past 52 years. Upon graduating from High School, Lawrence enlisted with the United States Navy and served his country for two years during World War II. After his service to the country, he embarked on 38 career year with the United States Postal Service, serving as a postal clerk at the Lynn’s main post office. He also was a member of the Golden Fleece Masonic Lodge in Lynn. He enjoyed gardening and tending to his vegetables. He also was a handyman and enjoyed fixing old TV’s and doing small repairs around the house. He was also a Ham Radio Operator, an avid New England Patriots fan, and for the past three years, was working on a book, chronicling his family’s genealogy. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son, Kenneth W. Ball of Peabody, his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bruce Sampson of Danvers, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ball of Bradenton, Fla., and two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Melissa Sampson, with whom he enjoyed their sports endeavors. He is also survived by the family cat, Fluffy and was the brother of the late Kendall Ball. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 12:00 PM Noon at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to a charity of one’s choice.
