Obituary of Raymond Crosby
Raymond Crosby, 63, of Salem, Ma., died Sunday evening at the Salem Hospital as a result of a stroke on August 17, 2002.
He was born in Lynn on June 12, 1939 and was raised in the Gallows Hill section of
Salem from 1939 to 1953 when he moved to Peabody. He resided there for 10 years. He attended the Endicott and Bowditch Schools in Salem and was a graduate of
St. John’ s Prep in Danvers in 1957 and Salem State College in 1962.
Ray played football for St. John’ s and soccer for Salem State. At one time, he was the highest scorer for Salem State soccer team with 24 goals in one season in 1962.
He taught for many years in the Ipswich Public Schools before moving to Phoenix,
Arizona where he lived for 10 years before moving back to Salem.
He is survived by his mother with whom he resided, Elsie (Cate) Crosby of Salem;
2 daughters, Lynn Crosby of Newton, N.H. and Heather Crosby of Portland, Me.; his
2 brothers, Robert H. Crosby of Marblehead and Daniel Crosby of Salem and many
nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late John Jack Crosby and the former
husband of Janice (Shaw) Crosby and Ann Marie Crosby.
