Obituary of Alexander J. Waselchuck

Alexander J. Waselchuck, 86, of Peabody, husband of the late Mary A. (Petkavitch) Waselchuck, died Monday afternoon at Salem Hospital after a lengthy illness with his family at his side. Mr. Waselchuck was born in Peabody on September 29, 1920 son of the late John and Helen (Yachinuk) Waselchuk. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School class of 1938 and was a lifelong resident of the city. Mr. Waselchuck was employed for 15 years as a ward attendant at the Danvers State Hospital until his retirement in 1985. Following his retirement he remained as a part time helper in the kitchen. He began his working career operating the family Waselchuk Livestock Company in Peabody, then as a leather worker at A.C. Lawrence Leather Co until it’s closing. While at Danvers State he also owned and operated Al’s Roofing Co. He was a great fisherman and fur trapper who also built ice fishing traps. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Barbara A. and Chuck Holmes of Peabody and John M. and Evelyn Waselchuck of Beverly; a brother John Waselchuk and his wife Mary of Peabody; 2 sisters, Mary Gerow of Middleton and Alice Lauzon of Duxbury; 4 grandchildren, Alexis and Stephanie Holmes of Peabody, Jessica and Michael Waselchuck of Beverly; 3 step grandchildren, Tanya Sangster of Peabody, Kimberly Lopez of Lawrence and Edward Anderson of Beverly; many nieces and nephews. His siblings Frederick, Anthony and William Waselchuk pre deceased him. A service will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (new location) Peabody. Relatives and friends may pay their respect from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will follow with a family committal of his ashes on Friday afternoon.
