Obituary of Elma K. "Nanu" (Luoto) Hicks

Elma K. “Nanu” (Luoto) Hicks, 94, of Peabody, wife of the late Mariner Hicks, died Thursday morning at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Peabody. Mrs. Hicks was born on November 27, 1912 in Monson, Maine daughter of the late Emil and Eva (Vauhkonen) Luoto. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a lifelong resident of the City. Mrs. Hicks was employed for several years at New England Sportswear in Peabody until her retirement. Her entire life was devoted to her family and later to her grandchildren. She was a 50 years member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Peabody Council on Aging, was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed sewing and bowling. She also summered at Lake Wentworth in NH. She is survived by her loving daughter, Shirley E. Ellison of Peabody; her beloved grandchildren, Donna M. and Sean Duffy of Huntersville, NC and David R. Ellison of Peabody; a special niece, Marion Bowden and her husband Russell of Peabody and many other nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Her sister Ellie Anderson and her son-in-law Robert H. “BBop” Ellison predeceased her. Her funeral service will be held on Monday March 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., (new location) Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 3 to 5 p.m. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Peabody Council on Aging, 79 Central St., Peabody MA 01960.
