Peter C. Lygomenos
PEABODYPeter C. Lygomenos, 90, formerly of Buttonwood Lane, died peacefully early Sunday morning at the Sunrise at Gardner Park Assisted Living Facility in Peabody following a lengthy illness.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Charles and Markella (Hiou) Lygomenos. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody. He was a graduate of St. John’s Prep in Danvers.
Mr. Lygomenos was a veteran of World War II, with service in the United States Army. He served in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatres of Operations.
He was employed as a Master Welder with General Electric in Lynn for many years before retiring, then he did training on a scaled down schedule. He also partnered with his brother, Steven, as Proprietors of the Sports Haven Bar & Rooming House in Salem, and a Package Store in Swampscott.
Among the many values he held, he lived life committed to family first and many who he befriended. He enjoyed being outdoors working on his garden, was an avid sports fanespecially Red Sox and Patriots, was a communicant of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody, and was a member of the Masons, Jordan Lodge in Peabody.
He is survived by two nieces, Markella Sauve of Peabody and Margaret Rodgers of Beverly; a nephew, Christopher Christy of Peabody; two grandnephews, Colby and Sean Rodgers of Beverly, a sister-in-law Josephine Lygomenos of Peabody, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother Steven Lygomenos, and sisters Jessica “Helen” Lygomenos and Tessie Despina Christy.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:30AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30AM in St. Vasilios Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM, with a Masonic Service Tuesday at 7 P.M.
Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to Beth Israel Deaconess Palliative Care, 330 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215.
