Obituary of Gerald F. "Gerry" Millea
Gerald F. "Gerry" Millea, 93, beloved husband of 30 years Betty Nichols Millea of Maryland, died on February 19, 2007 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury MD.
Mr. Millea was born on October 23, 1913 in Peabody, son of the late the late Arthur T. and Mary Theresa (Carlin) Millea.
Mr. Millea was a graduate of St. John's Preparatory School, Danvers, MA. He was a graduate of UN of Southern California where he was a member of the varsity football and water polo teams. He went on to graduate from the Harvard School of Business. He was a WWII officer of the US Army serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a staff member of Senator David I. Walsh of Massachusetts. He was an economist holding a number of high-level positions in the division of research and statistics, office of the comptroller and division of supervision and regulation at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC. He was a past member of the Washington Athletic Club, the Manor Country Club, Rockville, and the Caroline Country Club, Denton. He was an Oblate of St. Benedict at the St. Gertrude's Monastery, Ridgely and a very active member of St. Benedict/St. Elizabeth Parish Community serving on the Finance Committee for many years, also as a lector and catechist for the youth. He researched and wrote a history of the St. Elizabeth Church to help celebrate it’s 150th anniversary in 1981 and was also a member St. Peter and Paul Parish, Easton. He enjoyed world travel, swimming, golfing and ice cream. Gerry will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a step-son, William Collins of Seattle, WA, 1 nephew, James F. Millea of Boston, MA, 2 nieces, Susan Millea Gurry of Hampton, NH & Terry Millea Manion of Salisbury, MD, several great nieces & nephews and great, great nieces & nephews. He will be missed by many extended family members and friends. His brothers Arthur T. Millea and J. Franklin Millea pre deceased him.
A graveside service including Military Honors will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in St. Mary's Cemetery, 226 North St., Salem, MA. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Gerry Millea, Benedictine Foundation, 14299 Benedictine Lane, Ridgely, MD 21660. Local arrangements are by the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody.
