Obituary of John H. Riordan
John H. Riordan, 83, of Peabody,a well known Peabody
Resident died Wednesday at the Sunbridge Nursing Center, Beverly . He was the
Husband of the late Mary E. (O’ Connell) Riordan who died last year.
A lifelong Peabody resident, he was born in Peabody on March 31, 1919 the son of
The late Joseph and Anne (Moran) Riordan and was a graduate of Peabody High
School in 1936 and received a bachelor of Arts degree from St. Anselm College in
Manchester, N.H. in 1940.
He had been employed at the former A.C. Lawrence
Leather Co., Peabody as a Sales Manager from 1942 until his retirement in 1971.
He was a past president of the A.O.H. Div. 11 of Peabody and also served as
President of the the State A.O.H. and was voted a life membership by the National
A.O.H. in 1993.
He was also active in politics and served as a Peabody city counselor from 1954 to 1958 and later became chairman of the Licensing Board of Peabody.
After his retirement from A.C. Lawrence Leather Co.in 1971, he became the Business
Manager of the Peabody School Dept. for 12 years retiring in 1982.
He is survived by 2 sons and daughter-in-laws, Michael J. and Christine Riordan of
Cushing, Me. and Timothy J. and Nancy Riordan of Tucson, Az., a sister, Dr. Eileen
Riordan of Maryville, Tn, a retired professor of biology and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Jerome T. And Timothy J. Riordan, Catherine Brady and
Mary Kelleher.
His funeral will be held on Friday at 8:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home at the
20 Church St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church, Peabody at 9:00 a.m. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours are on
Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
