Obituary of Stephen R. Howe

Stephen R. Howe was born February 21, 1936 in Winthrop, MA. He lived in Lynnfield for 35 years and most recently at Brooksby Village in Peabody. He also summered in Popponesset Beach on Cape Cod. He was the son of the late Charles W. Howe and Mildred L. Mahony. He graduated from Winthrop High School and Boston University with an Associate of Arts degree and a BS in Business Administration with Highest Honors. Mr. Howe worked at Coopers & Lybrand from 1960 to 1976, serving as a general practice partner from 1970 to 1976. He was Senior Vice President of the Warren Five Cent Savings Bank from 1976 to 1988 and operated his own business as a CPA in private practice from 1980 to 2002. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Warren Bancorp from 1986 to 2002, serving on the Lending, and Strategic Planning Committees and as Chair of the Finance, Audit and Compliance Committee. He was also Treasurer of the Lynnfield Water District for 25 years beginning in 1978. Mr. Howe was predeceased by his loving wife of 36 years, Nancy Jane (Atkinson). He is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters: Jennifer Lane and her husband Christopher of Noank, CT; Stephen R. Howe Jr. and his wife Katherine of Pleasantville, NY; Jeffrey C. Howe and his wife Catherine of Pleasantville, NY; and Jill Purisky and her husband John of Lynnfield, MA. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren. Julia of Noank; Dennis, Charlie, Sean and Maria of Pleasantville; Casey, Kristina, Nancy and Jack of Pleasantville; and Sara, Kimberly, and Brian of Lynnfield. He is survived as well by 2 siblings: David Howe and his wife Jane of Rhode Island and Nancy Evans and her husband Harold of Winthrop. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed by his loved ones. His funeral service will be held on Thursday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Assumption Church, Lynnfield to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Willow Cemetery, Lynnfield. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923 or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
