Obituary of Peter Leondires

Peter Leondires, 80, devoted husband of Evangeline (Argeros) Leondires of Peabody, died Sunday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Mr. Leondires was born on April 22, 1927 in Peabody, son of the late John and Georgia (Koufopoulos) Leondires. He was raised in Lynn and grew up in the Brickyard area. He attended and graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1945. Immediately after completing his senior year, he enlisted on June 14, 1945 into the U.S. Army. He served in Italy with the Army of Occupation and achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant while being with the U.S. Army Signal Corps, receiving his honorable discharge on January 29, 1947. In 1973, he moved to Danvers with his family where he resided. In 2004 he moved to Peabody. Mr. Leondires was employed by AT&T, which then became Verizon. He retired in 1991 after 35 years of service with the telephone companies. He was a member of the Ahepa Chapter 119 in Peabody and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He and his wife traveled extensively on cruises, he was a sports enthusiast and also enjoyed fishing. In addition to his devoted wife of 48 years, he was the devoted and proud father of 4 sons and their wives, John P. Leondires of Peabody, Arthur P. and Deborah Leondires of Atkinson NH, Dr. Mark P. Leondires of Westport CT and George P. and Lisa Leondires of Salisbury; also survived by a sister and her husband, Agnes and George Fountas of Attleboro; his cherished grandchildren, Peter and Christopher Leondires of Atkinson and Jeremy and Jocelyn Leondires of Salisbury; many nieces, nephews and cousins. His sister Bessie Voris pre deceased him. His funeral will be held on Thursday April 19, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (new location) Peabody followed by a service at 10 a.m. in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Restoration Fund, 11 Church St., Lynn MA 01902 or to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers MA 01923.
