Obituary of Martin "Marty" J. O'Neill, Jr.

Martin J. O’Neill, Jr. PEABODY—Martin J. O’Neill, Jr., beloved husband of Jacqueline (Siebert) O’Neill, died peacefully Wednesday at his home with his family by his side, following a long illness. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Martin J. & Elizabeth (Cussen) O’Neill, Sr. He lived in Belmont and graduated from Belmont High School, Class of 1950. He went on to attend Northeastern University and Rutgers University. He settled in Peabody where he lived for the last 42 years. Mr. O’Neill worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company with 40 years of service, his last position was Assistant Vice-President of Credit. A gregarious person by nature, after retirement he worked recently at Hannaford Supermarket in Peabody where his official responsibility was bagging groceries, yet he carried the pleasure of being a store greeter. “Marty” as he was known, was active in West Peabody. He was a longtime communicant of St. Adelaide’s Church where he served as Head Usher and on the Parish Council, and he was a member of the Ward 6 Civic Association, the Boy Scouts, the West Memorial School Parents Council, and also enjoyed following Notre Dame Football. He will be dearly missed by friends and family, who always appreciated his congeniality and respect shown for everyone. He is survived by: his wife, Jacqueline (Siebert) O’Neill of Peabody, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage; a daughter, Kathleen O’Neill of Norfolk, VA; three sons and daughters-in-law, David & Karen O’Neill of McDonough, GA, Michael J. & Ana O’Neill of Holliston, and Mark J. & Tracy O’Neill of Peabody; eight grandchildren, Taylor, Meghan, and Lauren of GA, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Julia of Holliston, and Caroline and Joseph of Peabody; a brother, Joseph R. O’Neill of Bedford, many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
