Obituary of Anthony Brolewyc

Anthony Brolewyc PEABODY—Anthony Brolewyc, 86, beloved husband of Ruth (Marshall) Brolewyc, died peacefully on Thursday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Alex and Laura (Lewandowski) Brolewicz. He was a lifelong resident of the city. Mr. Brolewyc served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He enlisted on Feb. 10, 1942 and served 32 ½ months. As a 9th Marine Defense Battalion and Special Weapons Division, he was assigned to the Pacific Theatre of Operations and saw action on the islands of Guadalcanal, Hawaii, Marshall Islands, British Solomon Islands, Guam, and New Caladonia. Following a brief stay in the Chelsea Naval Hospital he received his Honorable Medical Discharge as a Corporal on Aug. 24, 1945. Mr. Brolewyc worked with the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier and retired after 21 years of service. Anthony was active in several veterans groups on the North Shore, as he always was proud of his patriotic duty and dedication to the United States. He was a member of the Essex County Marine Corps League, the First Marine Division Association of Boston, the V.F.W. Post 1011 of Peabody, the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.) Post 100 of Peabody, the American Legion Post 227 of Middleton. He enjoyed doing good deeds for others, by example being involved with the Toys for Tots Program of the Marine Corps League, and was an Outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and social gatherings with friends and family. He is survived by: his wife, Ruth (Marshall) Brolewyc of Peabody, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony & Jan Brolewyc of Gulf Breeze, FL; a daughter, Deborah Stavis of Peabody; three grandchildren, Bernard & Dena Stavis of Beverly, Amy & Brian Good of Daphne, AL, and Ashley & Ryan Troutman of Pace, FL; three great-grandchildren, Samuel Stavis, Shelby Stavis, and Peyton Stavis of Beverly; one brother, Edward Brolewicz of Walla Walla, WA; four sistes, Stasia Medeiros and Jenny Bovio, both of Peabody, and Regina Brolewicz and Millie Brolewicz, both of Naples, FL, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by brothers John, Chester, Leo, and sisters Helen Kosidlak and Josephine Castronova. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held today from 4 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923, to the Marine Corps League, P.O. Box 3141, Peabody, MA 01960 or to a Charity of one’s choice.
