Obituary of Maria (Freitas) Coelho

Maria (Freitas) Coelho PEABODY—Maria (Freitas) Coelho, beloved wife of the late Jose Coelho, died unexpectedly on Thursday morning at the Peabody Glen Health Care Center in Peabody following a brief illness. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Joaquim and Luisa (Tavares) Freitas. She lived there for 45 years. She emigrated to the United States on July 4, 1969, and lived in Cambridge for 13 years. She lived in Peabody for the last 25 years. Mrs. Coelho was a communicant at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody for many years. She is survived by: two daughters, a daughter and son-in-law with whom she lived, Maria & David Moura of Peabody and Rosa & Kert Terry of Columbus, GA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Manuel & Maria Soares of Peabody and Jose & Maria Coelho of Georgetown; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother, Antonio Freitas of Portugal, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her parents and husband, by two sons, Antonio Soares and Eduino Freitas Coelho. A visitation will be held today from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 11:15 AM from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:15 P.M. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
