Obituary of Barbara E. (McGray) Gamache

Barbara E. (McGray) Gamache, 86, of Peabody, wife of the late Henry J. Gamache, died Friday April 20, 2007 at the Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Peabody with her family at her side. Mrs. Gamache was born on December 5, 1920 in Danvers, daughter of the late Nehemiah C. and Mary E. (Thompson) McGray. She was raised in Beverly and graduated from Beverly High School Class of 1938. She resided in South Peabody for most of her life. Barbara was employed in the Peabody Public School cafeteria for several years. The DMR of Massachusetts also employed her until 2003. Barbara was a very caring person who gave to all causes particularly animal shelters and animal rights. She was an avid cat lover and will miss her cat Cinnamon. She enjoyed walking, gardening and reading and would often be seen at Suzy Scoops for ice cream when the weather was good. Barbara was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Peabody. She is survived by her 3 sons and their wives, Ward 5 Councilor David Gamache and Betty Gamache, Paul and Lori Gamache and Peter and Michele Gamache all of Peabody and her cherished grandchildren, Danielle, Krystal, Kara, Cody, Robert, Randall and Rebecca Gamache all of Peabody. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday April 26, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (new facility) Peabody. A memorial service will be held near the end of the visitation hours. A committal of ashes will be held at a later time. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 204 Highland Ave., Salem MA 01970-1842.
