Obituary of William H. "Mac" McAfee

William H. Mac McAfee 75 years, husband of Carol O. (Barros) McAfee of Peabody, died unexpectedly on Monday at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Mr. McAfee was born in Marietta Georgia son of the late William H. and Nettie (Johnson) McAfee. He was raised and educated in Marietta Georgia. After his High School graduation in 1947 he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served his country for 20 years, retiring in 1967 as a Boatswains Mate 1st Class. Prior to moving to Peabody in 1970 he resided in Boston for many years. Following his Coast Guard Career, Mr. McAfee worked as an assembler from 1969 at BTU International in Billerica until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed his family, was an artist who enjoyed painting and also loved growing tomatoes. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the VFW Fidelity Post 1011 in Peabody. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Chuck E. and Michele McAfee of West Roxbury, William H. McAfee III of MD; 5 daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda McAfee of Peabody, Patricia McAfee of Boston, Veta Marie Green of Mashpee, Shirley McAfee of Everett, Carol and Richard Gresham of GA; 2 sisters, Nettie Scott and Pearl Wade both of IL; 4 grandchildren, Stephen McAfee, Brett McAfee, Corey McAfee and Alix McAfee; his father and mother-in-law, Bradley and Mildred Kennedy of Boston; a sister-in-law, Jackie Crowder of Boston and several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. 2 sisters, Fannie Seals and Mae Sexton, predeceased him. His funeral will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, at the 12 Chestnut St. location, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Cremation will follow services.
