Obituary of Elmer "Wes" Wesala

Elmer “Wes” Wesala, 84, of Peabody, died Friday evening at the Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Carmen (Mallia) Wesala with whom he shared over 51 years of marriage. Born in Sagamore, he was the son of the late Matti and Beda (Hukkila) Wesala. He was raised and educated in Quincy and attended Quincy Trade School. He has spent the last 9 years living in Peabody. After high school, he served with Merchant Marines during World War II and was honorable discharged in August 1945. He was a painter with the H M Nordstrom Company in Newton and was a life member in the Painters Union D.C. # 35 of Boston for over 35 years. He had a zest for life and was a happy go lucky guy who wanted everyone to be happy. He loved to sing and dance and his favorite sport was fishing which he enjoyed with two of his nephews. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Barry Getto of Cohasset, a grandson, Timothy Getto of Cohasset, and a brother and sister-in-law, Weikko and Evelyn Wesala of Rocklin, California, an is also survived by many nieces and nephews. His visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
