Obituary of James Pereira
Peabody, February 10,2002. James R. Pereira, 74, of Englewood Rd, Peabody, died early Sunday afternoon at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, following a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Agatha Sally (Pementa) Pereira with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Woburn, he was the son of the late Manuel R. & Maria Joana (Gonsalves) Pereira. He had lived in Woburn for most of his youth and had attended Woburn Public Schools and was a graduate of Woburn High School, class of 1946. He later moved to Peabody and has been a resident for the past 48 years.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the United States Air Force. After the war he attended Coyne Electrical School and had received a certificate in Electronics. He later had worked for 30 at the Kodak Eastman Gelatin in Peabody as a Recreational Manager prior to his retirement 16 years ago.
He was a member and former Commander of the Portuguese American War Vets, Post 1 in Peabody, a lifelong member of the Portuguese America Recreational Club in Woburn, the Italian American Citizen Club and the Order of the Alhambra club, both in Peabody. He was an avid fisherman and loved gardening. He also was an avid Boston Sports Fan who enjoyed the entire Professional Sports Teams, Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and Patriots.
Besides his loving wife of 50 years, he survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Robert & Ann Pereira of Moorpark, Ca, and James & Katherine Pereira of Woodbridge, Virginia; 3 sisters and brothers-in-laws, Bernie & Paul Bacigalupo of Needham, Hilda & John Abreu of Woburn, and Adeline & David Sweeney of Woburn; 3 grandchildren, Jessica, Nathan, and Liam Pereira, and 1 great grandchild, Celeste Pereira, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the grandfather of the late Peter Pereira
His Funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody (978) 531-0398, followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 10:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited.
