Obituary of Thomas Michael "Bampy" White
Thomas Michael “Bampy” White, 88, of Peabody, husband of the late A. Eileen (McManus) White, died Tuesday May 1, 2007 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with his family at his side.
Mr. White was born on January 11, 1919, in Peabody son of the late Patrick and Bridget (Walsh) White. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School Class of 1937. He later pursued his education at the Hawthorne Institute for 2 years. During WW II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Mr. White began his working career as an assembler, later advancing into management at A.C. Lawrence Leather Company in Peabody until it’s closing in 1976. He then worked in the same capacity for GTE Sylvania until his retirement in 1989. Following his retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively.
Tom was a member of the Peabody Council on Aging, the Carmel Club of widows and widowers, A.O.H. Division 11, VFW Fidelity Post 11, BPOE Lodge of Elks 1409 and was also the unofficial photographer for the Peter A. Torigian Community Life Center all in Peabody and the American Legion Post # 227 in Middleton. He organized the reunions for his PHS Class of 1937. He enjoyed dancing, golfing, bird watching, bowling and enjoyed attending concerts at the Salem Willows and Peabody Leather Common.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Sheila A. and Richard J. D’Ambrosio of Peabody; his grandchildren, Alison and Kirk Bosma of MA and Kevin D’Ambrosio of IL; a brother and 2 sisters-in-law, Martin and Lee White of FL and Mary White of MA; several nieces, nephews and cousins. His brother John White and a companion Audrey Hogan pre deceased him.
His funeral will be held on Saturday May 5, 2007 at 8 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home 82 Lynn St. (new location) Peabody, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Friday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers MA 01923 or the Peter A. Torigian Life Center, 79 Central St., Peabody MA 01960.
