Obituary of Charles M. Cain
Charles M. Cain, 78, of Peabody and formerly of East Boston, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning at the Lahey Clinic in Peabody after being stricken at home. He was the devoted husband of Ann (Heffernan) Cain with whom he shared over 55 years of marriage.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late John and Eileen (Monahan) Cain. He was raised and educated in East Boston and has been living in Peabody for the past 47 years.
He was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Navy. Prior to and after the War he was a Merchant Marine for over 48 years. He was a navigator and 2nd mate before retiring in 1988. Following his retirement, he moved to Punta Gorda, Florida where he lived during the winter and would summer in Peabody.
He enjoyed traveling the world, was a World War II history buff. He also enjoyed reading, sailing and boating. He was a nautical word worker and enjoyed ship building.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by 5 daughters, Charlene Morin of Salisbury, Patty Ann Thompson of Danvers, Wendy Howells-Long of Pueblo, CO, Cheryl Cain-Patterson of Trinity, AL, and Lynanne Shea of Danville, NH; two brothers, John Cain of Burlington and Edward Cain of Stoughton; a sister, Marie Ward of East Boston, 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Patrick Cain.
A Memorial gathering will take place on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one’ s choice.
