Obituary of Benjamin Jamont

Benjamin Jamont, 91, of Salem, MA, died Monday evening at his residence after a long illness. He was the husband of Marion (Smith) Jamont with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. He was born and raised in Salem, the son of the late Theodore and Stafania (Zemitis) Jamont and later resided in Lynn and Middleton before moving back to Salem for the past 50 years. He was a veteran of WW 11 serving overseas with the US Army prior to his discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1946. He was a member of the VFW Post 2359 of Danvers. He was first employed at the Proctor Tannery in Salem and later at Salem Glass Company. He later worked as a spray painter at the Auto Roll Company in Middleton for over 20 years prior to his retirement 35 years ago. He enjoyed working and cultivating his vegetable garden. Surviving him besides his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, James M. and Priscilla Jamont of Newton, NH, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sara Sweeter and Clara and Peter Pappas all of Peabody, a granddaughter, Casey Jamont of Newton, NH, 3 nephews and a niece, Paul Sweeter of Phoenix, AZ, Andrew Sweeter of Peabody and Charles Pappas of Maine, a niece, Cynthia Angelopoulos of Swampscott and many grand nieces and grand nephews. He was the brother of the late Alozey Jamont. A visitation will be held on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to All-Care Hospice, 16 City Hall Square, Lynn, MA 01901 in his memory.
