Obituary of Ralph J. Smith

Ralph J. Smith, 75, of Peabody died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, May 23, 2007. He was born in Peabody on May 5, 1932, the son of the late George and Ruth (Cunningham) Smith and was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1950. He later entered the US Army and served for two years in the Korean War prior to his discharge in 1954. He then became a diesel Plant operator with the City of Peabody Light Department for 23 years until his retirement. He later worked as a driver at Evans Flowers and also worked at St. Michael’s Society in Peabody. He was an avid golfer and a member of the St. Michael’s Golf League. He enjoyed watching the Boston Sports on TV. He was the husband of Frances M. (Lane) Smith. Surviving him besides his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Debra Smith of Pembroke, MA, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Stephanie Argenbright and Francine and Mark Mansfield all of Georgetown, MA and Jacqueline and Jason Whitney of Lynn, MA, his grandchildren, Sarah and Patrick Argenbright and Arielle, Mark, Matthew and Allison Mansfield all of Georgetown, Autumn Whitney of Lynn, Travis Smith of Pembroke, MA, and Jesse De Peiro of Tuftonboro, NH, his two step-grandchildren, Cody and Owen Whitney of Lynn, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Mary Smith, Robert and JoAnne Smith all of Peabody, his sisters and brother-in-law, Mary and Bill Hallinan and Carole Eagar all of Peabody and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George Smith and Ruth Doucette. A visitation will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. John’s Church on Thursday at 9:00 AM with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
