Obituary of Ann Marie "Nancy" (Fitzgerald) Kelly

Ann Marie “Nancy” (Fitzgerald) Kelly, 87, beloved wife of the late Eugene T. Kelly, Sr., died peacefully early Friday morning at the Hunt Nursing and Retirement Home in Danvers following a long illness. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Ellen (Wallace) Fitzgerald. She lived in Salem in her youth. She attended local schools and the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, NJ. After she married her husband, Gene, she lived in New York City for a short time, then as he was a Director of Operations with Pan American Airlines, they moved to Ireland, near Shannon Airport, where she lived for a short time. She returned to Peabody, then moved to Waltham, and later moved to Marblehead for several years, then to Brewer, ME for nearly 10 years, before moving back to Peabody where she lived for the last 25 years. Nancy, as she was known by her family and friends, enjoyed entertaining, family and social gatherings. When in Peabody, she was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and she often visited St. Theresa Chapel at the North Shore Mall. She was a member of the St. John’s Ladies Sodality, enjoyed cooking, traveling, playing Bridge, and solving various word puzzles. Nancy will always be remembered as a kind, loving, gracious, elegant, and social woman. She was an avid sports fan, especially football for Patriots, Red Sox, and other local sports events. She is survived by: two sons, Eugene T. & Susan Kelly, Jr. of Lynnfield and Robert & Linda Gillespie Kelly of San Francisco, CA; two grandsons, Robert Kelly and Brian Kelly, both of CA; a great-grandson, Lucas Kelly of CA; a sister, Mrs. (Philip F.) Kathleen R. Conway of Peabody, a sister-in-law, Lucy Fitzgerald of Marblehead, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lt. Col. Chaplain William R. Fitzgerald, OMI, and Richard Fitzgerald. Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody to which relatives and friend are kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to North Shore Catholic Charities, 280 Washington St., Salem, MA 01970, or to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210.
