Obituary of Dr. Radha Gobinda Nath PHD.

Dr. Radha Gobinda Nath P.H.D., 80, of Marblehead, a retired math professor of Salem State College, died peacefully on Wednesday June 27, 2007 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long illness at quarter of five in the morning. He was born in the village of Ranibasan, West Bengal, India on October 1, 1926 the son of the late Nilkhanta and Basanti (Nath) Nath and received his early education there and the neighboring town of Contai where he went to middle school, and high school. He graduated from Contai P.K. College a branch of Calcutta University in 1947 ,the year of Indian Independence, and went on to graduate studies in Calcutta University, Calcutta , India graduating with his Masters degree in 1952. He then taught at Seuri Vidyasagar College in West Bengal, India for five years where he joined the National Cadet Corp of India as the first faculty officer of that school, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. He then came to the Untied States in 1957 on scholarship to pursue his P.H.D. at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. He studied from 1957 to 1963 at University of Illinois in Urbana and University of Utah and got his doctorate degree at the University of Utah in 1963. He enjoyed playing chess and was the 1962 chess champion at the University of Utah. He later taught at Utah State University in Logan, Utah for six years before coming to Salem State College in 1968 where he was a math professor for 32 years prior to his retirement in 2000. Dr. Nath enjoyed reading, working and tilling his garden, cooking and reading of History. He enjoyed watching Boxing, Tennis, Soccer, Basketball and the Boston Celtics. He loved to smoke Cigars and he loved people and sharing stories. He helped form and served as president of the Bengali Association in Massachusetts. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Utpala (Maity) Nath of Marblehead, a son Amit Nath of Marblehead, two daughters and a son-in-law, Susmita and Christopher Ford of Burlington, and Mousumi Nath of Brookline, MA, two grandchildren, Ian and Neil Ford both of Burlington and a host of relatives and friends here and in India. A Gathering will be held on Saturday from 9:30 until 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. A celebration of life service will be held there at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Dr. Radha G.
