It was a privilege to be at Sister Willie's bedside a few days before her passing. She shared her thoughts on what her approaching death would be like, and expressed deep gratitude for her life experiences. I left receiving so much. I knew I was in the presence of one who was radiant with the divine.

I remember sitting with Willie at a picnic table and she was singing (of course!):<br><br>"I see trees of green, red roses too<br>I see them bloom for me and you....<br>I see skies of blue and clouds of white<br>The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night....<br>And I think to myself, WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD"<br><br>Willie -- I am sure you see them all more clearly now -- and when I see them, I will think of you.<br><br>Eileen

My sympathy and prayers for the Sisters of Notre Dame at this time. You have lost a wonderful woman. Her spirit will continue to give many of us the courage to live a deeper commitment to those who are poor, to planet Earth, and to our inner selves. Thank you for nurturing her life.

Sister Willie is an ambassador for humanity. She was the first person I knew to volunteer to travel with Witness for Peace to conflicted areas of Nicaragua during the US sponsored contra war. She did so with much joy and courage. Her example and perspective dissolves fear and opened my universe. Thank you Sister Willie!

Willie was the soul of joy to all who met her, sang with her, danced with her or breathed the same air with her. I am so grateful for the time I spent with her in June at the end of our "My Heart is Moved" recording week. I thank God that Willie lived to complete the work we started. She lives on in our hearts and voices.

Sister Willie was an amazing woman who touched the hearts of so many. I had the pleasure of working with her when she was at Catholic Charities. I had never met anyone who cared so much about other people. Sister always had a smile on her face and could always see the good in any situation or any person. I feel honored to have known her if only for a short time.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Sister William Julie's passing. I was a student of hers at St. Mary High School in Lawrence, MA back in 1983-87. She inspired in me a passion for social justice, as well as the belief that one person CAN make a difference in the world. I try to share this vision with my own students today. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to have known "Sister Willie", and to bear witness to her selfless commitment to others. My thoughts and prayers are with the Hurley and Sisters of Notre Dame families.

As one of Sister Willie's first volunteers to New Life Aids Ministery, I feel much joy that I had the opportuntiy to work with her. She and I sat in her small office at Catholic Charities where she told me her dream of establishing a home for people living with aids. I, along with many others saw her dream come true. When I last spoke to her a couple of weeks ago, the first thing she wanted to know was how my grandchild was doing who had a serious bout with cancer. She always put others before herself. I will miss her terribly. I feel she was God's angel on earth who always saw the goodness in everyone no matter what their status in life. I feel honored that she was in my life. Willie, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. Until we meet again, I remain forever in your debt for what you brought into my life. <br>Love,<br>Peg Metheny
