Obituary of Sister William Julie Hurley, SND

Sister William Julie Hurley, SND, 70, died July 2, 2007 at the Sisters of Notre Dame Convent in Ipswich. Sister William Julie was born Margaret Ann Hurley on January 28, 1937 in Boston daughter of the late Daniel J. and Grace A. (Sweeney) Hurley. Sr. William Julie spent 51 years in Religious Life. Sister William Julie received her BA from Emmanuel College and a Master’s in Cosmology, Holy Name College, Oakland CA. She also studied at the University of Montana, Boston College and the Center of Concern in Washington D.C. Sister’s ministries were in Tyngsboro, Lawrence, Africa: Botswana, Swaziland & Zimbabwe, Rivier College, Essex County Jail, Aids Prevention in Greater Lowell area, GRIP Program - Justice Resource Institute. Sister William Julie was the founder of Julie House in Lowell, a residence for homeless people living with HIV/AIDS. Sister William Julie is survived by her siblings, John Hurley of FL, Daniel and Joseph Hurley of Wilmington, a nephew, J.J. Hurley and many other nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Her siblings Randall, William and James Hurley pre deceased her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday July 7, 2007 at 3:30 p.m. in Our Lady Queen Chapel, 30 Jeffrey’s Neck Rd., Ipswich. Relatives and friends may pay their respects Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Sisters of Notre Dame Convent, Ipswich. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ipswich. Donations may be made to the Notre Dame Ministries, 30 Jeffrey’s Neck Rd., Ipswich MA 01938. Arrangements by the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody.
