Obituary of Barbara A. (Eaton) Durkin

Barbara A. (Eaton) Durkin, 68, of Peabody, died early Tuesday afternoon at her home following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Thomas J. Durkin, Jr. with whom she shared over 45 years of marriage. Born in Brighton, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ann (Kelly) Eaton. She was raised and educated in Brighton, graduated from Mount St. Joseph’ s High School in Brighton, class of 1954. She then attended Regis College in Weston and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1958. She has been living in Peabody since 1963. She was a self employed Tax Practitioner (Enrolled Agent) who worked from her home in Peabody for over 30 years. Mrs. Durkin was a former president of the Acres of Pines in West Yarmouth and the Massachusetts Society of Enrolled Agents. Besides her loving husband of 45 years, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas J. Durkin, III and his wife Linda, and Charles and his wife Susan Durkin, all of Peabody; a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa Durkin and her husband Geoff of Marlboro; four grandchildren, Colleen, John Jack , Hannah, and Jenna Durkin, all of Peabody. Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:30 AM. Burial in Holy Hood Cemetery, Brookline. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923 or the MGH Cancer Center, Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114
