Obituary of Harold F. Richard

Harold F. Richard, 72, of Peabody, died Wednesday morning at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Dolores (Lewin) Richard, with whom he shared over 49 years of marriage. Born in East Boston, he was the son of the late Harold F. Richard, Sr. and Ethel (Machado) Richard. He was raised and educated in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High School, class of 1954. He later lived in Chelsea and has spent the last 44 years living in Peabody. He was a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard and participated during a period of national emergency with the Crisis in Berlin Germany from 1961 until July 19, 1962. After his service with the Massachusetts Air National Guard, he began a 43 year career as a meat cutter and later as meat manager for the grocery store chain of Stop and Shop. He worked throughout the North Shore and Boston area until his retirement a few years ago. Harold was also a handyman who enjoyed doing carpentry work and finish carpentry work for friends and family and also for the South Congregational Church in Peabody where he was a longtime member and played guitar for the Worship Band. He also enjoyed cooking for the church during Peabody’s International Festival held annually in Peabody Square. He also enjoyed fishing and was a former mason. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son an daughter-in-law, Joe and Cheryl Vega of Haverhill, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Diane Carr of Beverly, Denise and Doug McGrath of Derry, NH, and Lisa and Paul Resendiz of Peabody, a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Dottie Richard of Peabody, six grandchildren, Wendy, Tommy and his wife Heather, Vanessa, Dorothy, Ryan and Nikki, and a great grandchild, Tamara. His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 12:00 PM at the South Congregational Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
