Obituary of Alice C. (Barry) McDonald
Alice C. (Barry) McDonald, 82, died Sunday March 1, 2009 at the Brooksby Village Community in Peabody following a brief illness.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late John and Cecilia (Dunne) Barry. She grew up in Everett and graduated from Everett High School, Class of 1943. She then attended Boston University where she studied Chinese language. Upon returning from the war, she continued living in Everett where she raised her family, and then lived in Peabody, Stoneham and Cape Cod for years before returning to Peabody to live at Brooksby Village.
Mrs. McDonald was employed with Middlesex County as a Court Reporter with the Superior Court for many years.
She completed her patriotic duty by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.
Alice was a member of the Women Marines Association and enjoyed square dancing. She will be remembered as a loving and nurturing mother and cherished grandmother.
She is survived by: her husband, James McDonald of Salem; a daughter and three sons, Cecilia & Paul Healy of Newburyport, Andrew D. Popovich III of South Yarmouth, John P. Popovich of Puimoisson, France, and Edward J. Popovich of San Diego, CA; proud grandmother of Kim A. Popovich of South Yarmouth, A. Daniel & his wife Wendy Popovich IV of Dennis, and great-grandchildren Andrew D. Popovich V and Katherine E. Popovich of Dennis; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward J. & Ann Barry of West Yarmouth, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings John & Mary Barry, Robert & Jean Barry, and Patricia Hollett. Her funeral will be held on Monday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Service at 10 AM in the Brooksby Village Chapel, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 to 5 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Monday at 2:45 P.M. with Military Honors. Memorial donations may be made to the Brooksby Village Benevolent Care Fund, 300 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody, MA 01960.
