Obituary of Spero Spyropulos

. Spero Spyropulos, 87, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died Sunday evening at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Mary (Kostopoulos) Spyropulos with whom he shared over 54 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Thomas and Dimitra ( ) Spyropulos. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, class of 1941. He has lived in Peabody for the past 51 years. After high school, he entered the United States Army and served his country honorable from October 1942 until his discharged in April 1946. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon. After the war, he worked for 43 years for the General Electric Company in Everett and Lynn as a machinist before retiring. Spero enjoyed gardening, woodworking, watching the History Channel, and traveling, especially to Maine and Florida, where he spent quality time with his family and grandchildren. Besides his loving wife, Spero is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Barbara Spyropulos of Saugus, two daughters and a son-in-law, Janet and Gary Hufnagle of Peabody, and Demetra Kohler of Independent, Missouri, and by four grandchildren, Nicole, Corey, Colby, and Luke Hufnagle, and also by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George and Peter Spyropulos, Jenny H, Alice Garbas, Mary Mitchell, and Connie Perates. His service will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by Funeral Services at St. George Church, Lynn, at 10:00 AM to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
