To a great many of us who have worked at the Bull & Finch Pub, Jack was highly regarded as a gentleman and a friend. The doormen and the bartenders tendered him a salute as he entered the Pub or approached the bar. Many of us called him the "Commander." He was the only person to have his drink listed on the staff's computer beer-menu..."Jack's Beer." Jack loved to chat with both locals and the tourists, while entertaing the kids with his simple magic tricks. I always liked to talk with him about Bermuda and his many trips, and his accommodations at the Officers Club. He remained faithful to his old "clunker ," telling us about a new miracle-mechanic he found that kept his buggy afloat...or taking care to park the vehicle in the Boston Common garage as a major snowstorm approached. If a length of time passed without a visit to the Pub, the staff and few remaing regulars would ask if anyone had seen Jack. I would place an inquiring phone call to him, which he appreciated, but we all knew his health was failing over the last few years. He will be missed by everyone who knew him as the gentleman of the Pub, and a true friend to all. "Here's to one last trip to Nova Scotia."
"Cheers Jack"
~
Eddie Doyle,
Westwood, Massachusetts
