Obituary of John "Jack" H. Ellis

John H. “Jack” Ellis BOSTON—John H. “Jack” Ellis, 80, died peacefully on Thursday afternoon at the Wingate at Brighton Nursing Home, following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Dr. John H. and Mary B. (Sullivan) Ellis. He grew up and was educated in Peabody. He graduated from St. John’s Prep in Danvers, then from Tufts School of Liberal Arts, now Tufts University, where he studied Economics. He lived in Boston for over 40 years. Mr. Ellis enlisted in the United States Coast Guard for 20 years before his Honorable Discharge. He was employed with M.I.T./Draper Lab, and also worked as a Purchaser in the manufacturing field. Jack loved the ocean, and many things that were quintessential New England, including being an avid Boston sports fan. He was content to find a quiet spot to view the Charles River, work on his car, or a boat trip to Nova Scotia. He enjoyed photography and noticing how progress changed the cityscape in Boston or the North Shore and his hometown of Peabody. He enjoyed social gatherings, and his neighborhood spot of the Bull & Finch Pub in Boston—the one that inspired the TV series Cheers-- and was included in their book of notable regular customers. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Brian Keith of Lomita, CA, Laurie Keith of Beverly, Rebecca Stanton of Billerica, Amy Schofield of Rowley, and John A. Keith of Boston; two grandnieces, Meredith and Erin Stanton of Billerica, and many friends and cousins. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by a sister Elizabeth Keith, formerly of Topsfield. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday March 10, 2010 from 9:30 to 11:30 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 AM, with urn burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
