Patricia M. (Dowdell) Saffer
PEABODY—Patricia M. (Dowdell) Saffer, 72, beloved wife of Leon J. Saffer of Peabody, died peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a lengthy illness.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late John and Hilda (Dupray) Dowdell. She lived there most of her life, and graduated from St. James High School in Salem. She continued her education at Essex Agricultural where she studied Nursing. She lived in Peabody for the last five years.
Mrs. Saffer was a Licensed Practical Nurse who was employed for 20 years at Salem Hospital, from 1970 – 1990 before retiring.
Pat enjoyed living quietly, gathering with family and friends. She enjoyed travel to Port Charlotte, FL during the winter months, and supported her husband and family with their activities. She was a longtime parish member of St. James Church in Salem, and was a member of the St. James Choir.
She is survived by: her husband, Leon J. Saffer of Peabody, with whom she celebrated 54 years of marriage; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cheryl & her husband Andy Broughton of Peabody, and Nancy Saffer of Peabody; a son & daughter-in-law, Gary & Tammy Saffer of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Jonathan L’heureux and Allison L’heureux & her companion Nicholas Demonico of Peabody, Adam Saffer and Amanda Saffer, both of Georgetown; a great-grandson, Nicholas David Demonico of Peabody, and one other great-grandchild due within the month; a brother, John “Jack” Dowdell of Kissimmee, FL; two sisters, Jane Nolan & her husband Ed of Danvers, and Sandra Dowdell of Kissimmee, FL, and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her parents, by a sister Cynthia & her husband Joseph Burns.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Tuesday at 10:30 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore or Kaplan Family Hospice House, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
