Too soon, too soon, we lost ou friends Hugh and Claire,
Our minds can't accept they'll no loner be there.
How sad that they're gone, after fourty-two years
Of laughter, joy and even some tears.
We did so much together, side by side
Travelled the world, and much dancing beside.
The loss of our companions we can't comprehend,
Nor even being able to say good-bye to such dear freiends.
To accept the inevitable we certainly must try.
Now all we can do is to pray and to cry.

We’ll always remember Hugh for his extraordinary energy, razor-sharp intelligence, and wicked sense of humor. He and Claire had a special relationship. For whatever reason, I was usually around one or the other but not the two of them together. I have to admit I never saw how they were a match for each other. One day I remember very clearly, I was probably still at Tufts, Claire telling me how Hugh was just as romantic with her as when they first met, not that Hugh would want that advertised. I was just stunned. There was that other side to Hugh where he would arrange for me to paint the house of one his friend’s. It was because Hugh had that other side that he made such a strong impression on those of us lucky enough to spend some time with him.

Hugh and Claire’s giving spirit and generosity makes this loss that much greater.

Candy, Chris, and Curtis, You have our best wishes and love in this time of mourning.
