Obituary of Edith T. (Collins) McCarter

Edith T. (Collins) McCarter PEABODY—Edith T. (Collins) McCarter, 91, beloved wife of the late Frederick J. McCarter, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday June 6, 2011 at the Peabody Glen Healthcare Center in Peabody following a brief illness. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late George and Ida (Thompson) Collins. She grew up in Roslindale and attended schools in Boston. She graduated from Girls Latin High School in Boston. Mrs. McCarter lived in Peabody for 61 years, and gave much of herself in the community. Besides nurturing her family, she was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Peabody where she was involved in the Couple’s Club, the Cogan League, and sang in the choir. She also enjoyed playing piano, square dancing with Riverside Squares, and was a member of the Eastern Star of Peabody, and enjoyed time spent at the Peabody Council on Aging and Torigian Community Life Center of Peabody. She is survived by her son John & his wife Odile McCarter of Amesbury; daughters Janet McDonald of Dallas, TX and Jean Goldsworthy of Peabody; nine grandchildren, Brett, Amy, Todd, Joel, Brian, Laurie, Jack, Valerie and Rebecca; her 11 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Katie, Ryan, Maddison, Cade, Emalyn, Jacob, Grace, William, Liam, and Bridgett, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Saturday June 11, 2011 from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30 A.M. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to the Peabody Council on Aging, c/o Torigian Community Life Center, 79 Central St., Peabody, MA 01960.
