Obituary of Richard W. "Rick" Melville
Richard “Rick” Melville, 51, of Peabody, died early Saturday morning at his home following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Carol (Hayden) Melville, with whom he shared over 27 years of marriage.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of Carl and Carol (Dudley) Melville of Peabody. He was a life long resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody Veteran’s Memorial High School.
Rick worked for Salem Hospital for over 10 years until his retirement in 1997 due to his disability.
Rick was a fun loving person who loved life and enjoyed being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a sports enthusiast and was a fan of all of Boston’s sports teams. While in high school he played on the varsity football team and continued to support the football program and followed the team’s progress up to last week. He also loved watching Ryan play football and Kaylan run track for Peabody High. Rick was a horse racing fan and as a hobby he handicapped races.
Rick was well known and loved by his family and friends and will always be remembered for his perseverance and his love for life. Besides his loving wife Carol he will be dearly missed by his son and daughter, Ryan and Kaylan Melville, both of Peabody, his brother, Robert Melville and his fiancé Michelle of Peabody, two sisters, Lisa and her husband David Jordan of Peabody and Laurie and her husband David Strangie of Apopka, FL., his father and mother-in-law, Edward and Eleanor Hayden of Lynn and by several nieces and nephews, especially his devoted nephew Kyle Jordan who was Rick’s caretaker and all around handyman. Rick’s loss will also be felt by his dog Riley and his two cats Lillie and Tess.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy can be made in his name to the Peabody High School Football and Track Boosters, C/O Athletic Director, 485 Lowell St., Peabody, MA 01960.
