I had the honor of serving on the Journeys of Hope board with Herb, where he was a dedicated and effective voice on behalf of the youth and young adults Journeys serves - no task was ever too menial nor goals too daunting. Herb was truly a gentleman in every best sense of the word - his keen perception and mischievous sense of humor will be missed.

To the family of Dr. Herbert Hagele, we wish to extend our deepest sympathies from the Navy League of the United States. While he served as the Massachusetts Bay Council President a few years ago, we came to know him as a sincere, articulate leader that valued the friendship of the nearly 800 members. While it has been many years since I have seen Herb, I have fond memories of talking with him and Betty Jo on the steps of St. Pauls after mass to share the risque' joke of the week. He taught me one of life's most important lessons. While talking about his days in the Navy as well as his time in the emergency room he confirmed "It is true what your mother always told you growing up. The first thing we check is to see if you have clean underwear!" Herb had a wonderful sense of humor and was always there to help someone in need. The world is a little poorer without him. He is in my prayers.

Jay Hamilton

Herb Hagele was so good to me. Never was he too busy to discuss any issue with me, health related or otherwise. I worked with him at Sylvania since I have been located at our headquarters in 1996. I can tell you that he loved his family so sincerely and looked forward to every chance to be with you whether on an elaborate vacation or a Saturday night dinner. His passing is a huge loss for Sylvania and for me personally. My guess is that he is organizing his afterlife and surely cutting through some red tape right now to get it done!
