Obituary of Lena R. "Lee" (Gigliotti) Styles

Lena R. “Lee” (Gigliotti) Styles, 94, of Peabody, wife of the late William L. Styles, died at home on Thursday, November 3, 2011 surrounded by her family. Mrs. Styles was born in Peabody on April 8, 1917 daughter of Francesco and Catarena (Scarcellar) Gigliotti. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School Class of 1935. She received her registered nurse degree from J.B Thomas Hospital in Peabody. In 1942, she enlisted into the U.S. Army Nursing Corps and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the South Pacific with the 374th General Hospital Asiatic Pacific Theater receiving her honorable discharge in 1946. Lee worked as a registered nurse at J.B. Thomas Hospital, Boston City Hospital, Tewksbury State Hospital and worked in private duty nursing before joining the City of Peabody as a public health nurse in 1952, a position she held until her retirement in 1983. Lee was a charter member of the Women in Military Service for America, the Women’s WWII Memorial, a sponsor for the American Disabled Veteran for Life Memorial, VFW Fidelity Post 1011 in Peabody, Golden Eaglet Girl Scout, the Historical Society, Garden Club. Italian American Citizens Club. She traveled with the Mystic Valley Railway Society throughout the U.S. and as hobbies, she enjoyed trail bike riding, motorcycles, snowmobiling, oil painting, and at age 91, organ lessons. Lee is survived by 2 sons, Jack A. Styles and his wife Pamela of Salisbury, and W. Mark Styles of N.Y.; a sister, Lucy Peterson of Peabody; many nieces and nephews. Lee is predeceased by her siblings, Anthony, William, Camino and Benjamin Gigliotti, Frank Gelott, Rachel “Susy” Wheeler, Mary Trabucco, Maria Gigliotti and Catherine Cronin. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 8:45 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at 20 Church St. Memorial contributions may be made in Lee’s memory to the Disabled American Veterans Association @ www.DAV.org Burial at Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers.
