Obituary of Holten Brandi

Holten Brandi, 72, of North Reading, a creative chef and caterer, and formerly of West Peabody, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in Greenport, L.I., New York on April 22, 1939, the son of the late Serafino and Evelyn Alice (Holten) Brandi and was raised there. He was a graduate of Cornell University and taught culinary courses there. He was first employed with the Marriott Hotels Inc. in the Washington DC and Philadelphia areas. He later owned and operated Brandi’s Wharf Restaurant and Night Club in Philadelphia for many years. He then moved to Peabody, MA where he started working at the former Yoken's Restaurants in Danvers and Portsmouth, NH. He later started the Holten Brandi Foods, A Catering Service that he ran with his family for 36 years. He was very successful in creating many catering events along the North Shore and Boston and Newton areas. A talented chef, he taught a gourmet cooking class and also food preparation classes at Essex Agricultural School for many years. Holten was in charge of all foods at the former Sullivan stadium in Foxboro. Holten enjoyed traveling to different places and taking many pictures for his photography hobby. He was the husband of the late Judith Anne (Shick) Brandi. He is survived by his adoring companion, Diane Riddell of No Reading, a son, Stephen Brandi of Peabody, two daughters and a son-in-law, Elisa Brandi of Winthrop and Suzanne and Joseph Reed of Peabody, a brother, John Brandi of American Virgin Island of St. John, a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Bart Labowitz of Florida, his four grandchildren, Nicholas Brandi Miller and Olivia Brandi Miller of Winthrop, and Cyan and Temperance Reed of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His Funeral Service will be held there on Friday at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Derry N.H,, P.O.
