Obituary of Joseph E. Kelso

Joseph E. Kelso PEABODY—Joseph E. Kelso, 84, beloved husband of Margaret (Coviello) Kelso of Peabody, died early Monday morning January 9, 2012 at the North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital following a short illness. Born in The Bronx, New York City, NY, he was the son of the late John and Johanna (Shea) Kelso. He grew up there, and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 1945. He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, and his last assignment was in Boston. While working in Lynn is when he met his wife Margaret and they would spend the next 65 years together. Mr. Kelso worked at Argos Leather in Lynn. He later was an office manager with Ossoff Leather where he spent most of his career, retiring 21 years ago. Joe enjoyed travel, reading, and keeping things simple in life. He was a member of the Leo Council 508 Knights of Columbus in Peabody, and served as a Past Grand Knight. He also was a Fourth Degree, Fourth Degree Father Gabriel Druillette Assembly. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Coviello) Kelso of Peabody, with whom he spent 64 years of marriage; two sons, Thomas Kelso of Peabody and Dave Kelso of NH; three daughters, Kathleen Horton of Prescott, AZ, Lori-Ann Salerno of PA, and Caroline Martineau of NJ; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Thursday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 7 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Knights of Columbus, Main St., Peabody, MA 01960.
