Obituary of Arthur Stephen Hatgis

Arthur Stephen Hatgis, 80, completed a full tenure of life on January 5, 2012. Born January 8th, 1931 in Peabody, MA to Stephen Arthur Hatgis of Samos, Greece and Penelope Davajoglou of Alatsata, Asia Minor. Arthur graduated from Peabody High 49’ and served in the Air Force (1950-54) as private rank while playing Air Force baseball, shortstop position, for 2 years. Arthur married Joanne Hatgis (Georges) in 1955 for 22 years. Arthur was lead singer and drummer for The Grecian Keys. His years were spent as owner/barber of The Clip and Curl and The Image Maker. Arthur often served as Master of Ceremonies for many Greek functions. He was remarried in 1984 to Irene Hatgis (Markos Anagnos). Soon after moving to Lynn he worked for the Lynnfield Post Office. Toward the end of his life, Arthur moved back to San Diego joining his children and grandchildren, two years of full time golfing was also spent with his son, Steve and family in Texas. Arthur was blessed with Andrea's husband, Manny Jr., who kept him smiling, laughing and ever youthful. Manny Sr. became Arthur’s loving friend and trusted companion. Arthur will be remembered as always having an enthusiasm for life, an infectious smile and a playful sarcasm that could slice through any tensions felt. We are reminded that in each phase of life there is always something to learn and that one remains steadfast, diligent and always playful. Arthur Hatgis is survived by his sister, Harriet, daughters Boston, Dianne, Andrea, and son Stephen, along with stepdaughter, Valerie, nephew Chris and niece Stephanie. Grandchildren; Marcy, Nikki, Anna, Alexandria, Vanessa, Dane, Adam, Anastasia, Zoe, Arthur, Serena, Alex, Great Grandchildren; Xavier, Alaila and Ethan. Arthur was preceded in death by his second wife Irene Hatgis (2007), first wife Joanne Georges Hatgis (2000) and stepson Theodore A. Anagnos (2001). The viewing and service will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 11 Church St., Lynn on Saturday, January 14th, 2012 from 9:30 until 11:00 am, followed by his services at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Arrangements were made by the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody.
