Obituary of James A. Bowers, Jr.

James A. Bowers, Jr., 71, of Danvers, husband of Alice M. Bettencourt, died on Tuesday January 31, 2012 surrounded by his family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Mr. Bowers was born in Hanover, NH on July 29, 1940 son of James A. and Phyllis (Farnsworth) Bowers of Heartland, Vermont. Jim was raised in Heartland, VT graduating from Windsor High School in 1958. In 1963, he received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. Before to moving to Danvers in 1992, Jim resided in Winchester. Since 1992, Jim has been employed as an engineer at Analogic in Peabody developing CT Scanners. Prior to this, Jim worked at EG&G in Salem on the LEM Project developing the Lunar Excursion Module and for Geophysical Survey Systems spending time in Alaska using a special device they developed to measure the depth of ice for oil rigs. Jim belonged to the Sports Car Club of America, Corvair Club of America, Porsche Club of America, was Treasurer of the Winchester Jaycees and helped plan and organize the first ever Winchester Town Day, Chairman of the Winchester Scholarship Foundation, Commodore of the Winchester Boat Club for 3 years, a member at the Danvers Fish & Game Club, and also traveled throughout the world. In addition to his wife of 19 years and his parents of VT, Jim is survived by 2 sons and their wives, James A. and Susannah Bowers of Winchester, Michael S. and Jennifer Bowers of Edina MN; a step daughter, Andrea M. Pereira of Peabody; 4 grandchildren, Alexander and Andrew Bowers of Winchester, Charlotte and Nicholas Bowers of MN; a step grandson, Jacob Pereira of Peabody; his 3 siblings and their spouse, Herbert and Ines Bowers of WI; Linda and Fred Bush, and Eric and Linda Bowers all of VT; and several nieces and nephews. Jim’s service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
