Obituary of Alan Frank Taubert

Alan F. “Al” Taubert, 71, of Peabody and long time resident of the North Shore, died Sunday morning at the Peabody Glen Health Care Center following a lengthy illness. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Frederick and Florence (Plock) Taubert. He graduated from Worcester Poly Technical Institute in 1963 with a degree in Engineering. Shortly after graduating, he moved to California to work as a lead designer of the original California Aqueduct System. After furthering his career working for the states of New York and Rhode Island, he moved his family to the City of Peabody in 1968 and worked as the City Engineer and then Director of Public Services. In 1979 he moved to the city of Beverly to take the position of Commissioner of Public Works until 1990. He finished his long time public service career as the Commissioner of Public Works for the Town of Swampscott. After retiring in 2001, he moved back to the city of Peabody and volunteered his services to city with their extensive school building construction program and was awarded the volunteer man of the year in 2001 by then Lt. Governor Kerry Healy. He was Chairman of the Board of the Salem/Beverly Water Supply Board from 2003 until 2011. He enjoyed his lake house in Shapleigh, Maine and loved many sports such as tennis, golf, skiing and loved to play games of bridge, whist, chess and cribbage. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Alan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Suzanne, his son Alan and his family Christina and Alyssa, Rhoda and Kerrianne, two grandchildren, Christina and Alyssa, a daughter Lauri and her husband Doug Chapman, his brother, Fred and his wife Maureen of Florida and New Hampshire, a sister, Eleanor and her husband Bill Leitch of Cape Cod. His older brother Richard predeceased him and is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ethel of Sterling and by many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 1:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A one hour visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 until 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Torigian Community Life Center, 75 Central St., Peabody, MA 01960.
