Obituary of Charles T. "Charlie" O'Shea

Charles T. “Charlie” O’Shea, 74, of Peabody, died early Saturday morning at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill following a courageous two year battle with cancer. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Charles and Henrietta (Lech) O’Shea. He was a life long resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1955. He continued his education at Boston College and received his bachelor’s degree in 1959 and then his Masters Degree in Education from Salem State College in 1966. Charlie worked for over 35 years for the city of Peabody as a guidance councilor at the Higgins Middle School before retiring 1994. Charlie was very active in the community and belonged to many organizations including the St. Michael’s Society in Peabody and the Knights of Columbus in Danvers. He also enjoyed bowling at Metro Bowl in Peabody, doing crossword puzzles, gardening, reading, and was an avid coin collector as well. He was passionate about baseball and loved his New York Yankees and was able to watch on T.V. the 100th anniversary game between the Boston Red Sox and New York Highlanders on Friday at Fenway Park. He is survived by his daughter, Beth and her husband Bob Bertoni of Haverhill, his son Brian and his wife Lyn O’Shea of Ft. Myers, FL., and his daughter Brenda O’Shea and her fiancé Mark Kearney of Wyoming, his sister, Florence and her husband Warren Dow of Beverly, his two grandchildren, Dylan and Dan Burrows of Haverhill, his aunt Alfreda Archambault of Tewksbury, his former wife, Barbara O'Shea of Haverhill, and by his four legged friend, Otis. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
