June, I am sorry I could not have seen you in person to express my deepest symphathy to you and your family. Though not there in person, you are in my thoughts and prayers. "JAK" and I worked together for over 15 yrs., and he brought a smile to face each and every day I saw him, and I know he will continue to bring a smile to me every time I think of him. I am thankful for knowing him. Again, I am thinking of you.

<p><strong>"a life well used"</strong></p><br><p>I met Dr. Kazes in 1996 at Beverly Hospital when he briefed me about the emergency reconstructive surgery he was about to conduct on my wife after a catastrophic leg injury, 7 fractures to the leg and ankle.</p><br><p>Today, as I write, my wife is recovering from another surgery to her ankle, an advanced procedure new to our country.</p><br><p>The main reason she was a candidate for this surgery was because of the extraordinary good job that Dr. Kazes had done on that April day in 1996, a perfect reassemble of a shattered ankle. Any doctor who saw the before and after to a one commented about the great job he did. They had no vested interest to say either way, but they all knew greatness when they saw it and they admired his work.</p><br><p>Dr. Kazes's great medical skill was undeniable, but what really set him apart as a healer was the man he was. He had wonderful and rare bed side manner, the smile and the sense of humor were unparalleled or exceeded by any doctor I ever met. Beyond the pins, plates, fixators and stitches, the bedside manner played just an important part in the healing process.</p><br><p>He was my doctor too and he liked to rib me about how my wife was a better and braver patient. It seemed that I flinched more when I got the painful shots into my elbows and he would laugh saying my wife handled it better.</p><br><p>We who were his patients were much better off being served by Dr. Kazes. We were better for his ability to heal and we were better for knowing him. My life was better because of him, period.</p><br><p>To his family, friends, and other patients, we all grieve for a man gone too soon, but were all better off to have had him in our lives no matter how brief and I would take that brevity over never to have had him in our lives at all .</p><br><p>Rest and peace to you Dr. Kazes.</p><br><p>The Sultzbach family</p>

My deepeset condolences to the Kazes family. Dr. Kazes (John) treated all my family members numerous times and over the years we got to know him as a kind, compassionate man, who ALWAYS took the time to sit and chat and laugh with you no matter how busy he was. Dr. Kazes treated my daughter all through high school and half her college career, along with my son, myself and husband. After many years we felt like he was also a friend who always made you smile when you saw him in his office, always asking about the family and being interested in them all. Dr. Kazes, you will be missed. —The Macdonald Family (Bill, Sue, Kristin and Matt)
