Obituary of Dr. John A Kazes

Dr. John A. Kazes, 62, of Rockport, died Saturday evening surrounded by his family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the devoted husband of June (Maglitta) Kazes with whom he shared over 27 years of marriage. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his beloved children, daughter Elizabeth and her husband Zach Daly of Dover, NH, son Alex Kazes and daughter Elaina Kazes, both of Rockport, his mother, Irene (Polychronopoulos) Kazes of Lowell and sister, Sophie Mitsios of Lowell. He was preceded in death by his father, Gus Kazes, of Lowell. Born in Putnam, CT, he was raised and educated in Lowell and was a longtime resident of the North Shore. After high school, John received his undergraduate degree from UMass Boston and then continued onto the University of Athens School of Medicine. Following an orthopedic residency at Tufts New England Medical Center, John became an Orthopedic Surgeon and practiced on the North Shore for nearly 30 years. Dr. Kazes was a partner at the North Shore Center for Orthopedic Surgery in Danvers and Salem, and was a staff member at Salem and Beverly Hospitals. He also was very active at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody and participated in the St. Vals’s Men’s Club. John enjoyed spending time on the ocean, playing Mark Knopfler tunes, football, researching and visiting new restaurants, and listening to sports radio AM 850. In recent years, he most enjoyed his time in Greece with family and friends. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the St. Vasilios Church in Peabody.
