Obituary of Demetrios Isidoros "Jimmy" Sarantis
Demetrios Isidoros Sarantis, 76, of Peabody, died Saturday evening at the Beverly Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Chios ,Greece on July 27, 1936, the son of the late Isidoros and Mary (Theodorakis) Sarantis and came to New York in 1947 before settling in Peabodyin 1952.
He was first employed in the leather industry in Peabody. He later became a carpenter and cabinet maker working with Samos Cabinets of Peabody. He then became an independent contractor doing carpentry and painting for many years prior to his retirement.
Demetrios enjoyed playing pool as a member of the Sunshine Club of the VFW Post 1011 of Peabody. He was an artesian and loved doing sketches and repairing broken furniture. He had been a member of St.Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church and the Greycroft Club of Beverly. He had an infectious smile and was an inspiration to others. He had the ability and temperament to give comfort in helping others find their way through life.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Bernard) Sarantis and his two sons, Sid and John Sarantis all of Danvers, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Maria Sarantis Carter, Corina and her husband Matthew Ekstrom and Pamela Sarantis-Lapointe and her husband Paul all of Beverly, two brothers, George Sarantis of Peabody and Nicholas Sarantis of New York, his sisters, Catherine Panopoulos of Peabody and Jean Theriault and Dora and her husband Antonio Tsimounis all of Salem. He was "Papou" to his nine grandchildren and a great granddaughter, and also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother-in- law of the late Eugene Theriault and Irene Sarantis.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 138 Conant St.,1st Floor, Beverly, MA 01915 in his memory.
