I will be 50 years old this April. It will be 48 years since a humble, loving, gentle and remarkable Pediatrician saved my life. His ability to know when he needed to get his patients to a specialist was been well documented here in this guest book and probably by hundreds more people that have not heard of this wonderful man's passing. His house calls and generosity when my young parents, too poor to afford yet another prescription for their sickly child, paid for my needed medicine. My many many visits to his practice in Peabody where I was poked, prodded and stuck with too many needles. I would not cry, ever. Because of my stoicism, he dubbed me "the Judge." He called me that so much his staff and the Nurses at NSCH (North Shore Children's Hospital) called me that as well. His referral to Dr. Hendren at MGH saved my life. For the rest of my childhood after that, through stitches and sports injuries, he stilled called me the Judge. When I was 'all grown up" at age 20 while burning the candle at both ends, I managed to catch a bad case of Mono. Not having an adult doctor yet, I reluctantly agreed to go back to 1m Roosevelt Avenue to Dr. O'Shea's office. Still under 21, I sat in the office on the couch, surrounded by little ones, with current Highlights magazines still in the waiting area, I leaned heavily on my Dad unable to even hold my head up. He came out himself and called me in, "Okay Judge, lets see what's wrong with you!" five years later during one of our birth classes, they had a Pediatrician come in to speak with all the new parents to be. Dr. O'Shea said "Hello to the Judge!" He made my very small world of Doctor's and Hospitals be not so scary because every time he saw me his face lit up. I did smile for him on occasion and then he lit up the room. I know he was that way for every other child in his care. I am blessed and I know how very lucky were we! Thank You Dr. O'Shea for everything.

One other thing. How Curious is this: On Monday, December 24th, I woke and thought of him. Before leaving for work, I Googled him and found nothing except his practice information. I spent some time thinking of him that morning. Today, I looked at the the last week or so of obituaries and found this. I am glad I had that time with those memories.

We are so sorry to hear the loss of Dr. O'Shea. It is fitting he should pass away on Christmas day. Blessed was he and all his patients. He saved my daughter's life. My daughter was 5 with a tummy ache. He told us to go to Boston for a diagnosis. Within 24 hours, they were doing emergency surgery for an obstructed colon. He retired a few years later. We starting seeing a new pediatrician. I knew something was wrong, but our doctor said it was nothing. I showed up on Dr. O'Shea's door - he welcomed us into his home and examined my daughter on his living room sofa. Again, he said to go to Boston for a diagnosis. It turns out she had Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis - polyarticular( every joint in her body was inflamed). Several years later, she was serving dinners at Brooksby Village - wasn't she surprised when she got to serve Dr. O'Shea. He always joked with her that she was his last patient (albeit in his own home). Later, a specialist told us that they broke the mold with Dr. O'Shea He has always been in our prayers. We were blessed to have known him.
May he rest in peace, love and joy - everything he brought to his patients and anyone who knew him.

As the middle child of seven children, I spent alot of time at Dr. O'Shea's office either as a patient or a "guest" Dr. O'Shea was a kind, and caring doctor, who went above and beyond what was expected. I never "feared" going to the doctors when I was little. He was a God send to my mom and dad and certainly an asset to his profession. We have lost one of the best and most loved pediatrician's in Peabody.

Anyone who knew Dr. Thomas O'shea was better for it. He saved my life, and I'm sure thousands of others. I remember he came to my house often as a child, and I was scared of the big man with the red hair... He also treated my children up until, as he said they are making me retire, couldnt have been all those hours he was in the offie, or at the hospital, checking on his patients. I loved him like a second father. My deepest sympathy goes out to his sons, thier families, and the picture he showed me of the grand daughter with the red hair. ( The girls are the best) God bless you all, and take comfort that he is with God.

There is not much more to say that has not already been written. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, O'Shea boys, for sharing your dad with all of us through all of your growing up years. Favorite memory and quote, as doc would bellow every time my son was in his office "30 years in the arms of another man's wife! ......myyyy mother!" You have my deepest condolences, you have lost a very special guy!

Our sincere, heartfelt condolences to the O'Shea family.
I have many fond memories but the one that stands out is, when Dr. O'Shea arrived in the middle of the night to our home in Lynnfield wearing his pajamas to take care of our daughter Lori. He stayed awhile and we had a great chat. He was the last of the best "old time doctors" , house calls !! He will be missed. Doc, may you rest in peace, your eternal reward. God bless. Dr. O'Shea, what a great guy he was, a real one of a kind!! I have such fond memories of him taking Kevin and I to the old war movies in Boston and drinking ice cream shakes. That newspaper tucked under his arm as he shuffled across the floor, classic! I will never forget the backflip off the diving board that didn't go as planned and, as fate would have it, happened at the O'Shea's. We were deeply saddened by the passing of this wonderful man. There are four children in our family, Doc cared of all of us. When our baby sister was born, the day she came home from the hospital, Doc was there to examine her on our dining table. I remember one stormy night, one of us was sick, Doc came to the house riding on a snow plow! This was the dedication and love he had for his "kids". Thank you Doc, for being such a great doctor and friend. Our sympathies to the O'Shea family, The Della Croces'

We credit Dr Oshea with the life of our 2 month premature twin boys back in 1967. His compassion and care were the talk of all who were his clients. We remember many a late night when Tom would come in the middle of the night, still in his slippers, to make sure we were well taken care of. God bless you Tom. I'm sure God has prepared a special place for you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all who loved Dr O'Shea. Friends have been talking on Facebook, reminiscing about this great man. He was my husband's pediatrician (as well as hubby's siblings) and my oldest daughter's doctor until he retired. We remember him flipping Beca around like she was a fish (and we treated her like she was fragile!). He was one of the most brilliant, caring, and compassionate men I've ever met.

Dr. O'shea was truly one of a kind. He was pediatrician for 2 generations in our family, and had our grandsons lived closer, it would have been 3 generations. Who can forget the late night house calls with him arriving in his stocking cap, cheerful like it was mid-day? Or the scent of Canoe. And the reassurances that "He's a good fella, he's doing just fine, look at the halo over his head". A legacy indeed, Dr. O'Shea will never be forgotten and we are forever grateful he was a part of our lives. May he rest in peace.

The inimitable Dr. O'Shea! What fond memories we (the parents of his former patients) have of him. My three (now grown) children were so very fortunate to have been cared for by this funny, loving, brilliant physician. I remember well his visits to Salem Hospital to examine my newborn babies, where he would handle them as comfortably and expertly as a pro football player handles the ball. When my now-30-year-old son was born in the winter, Dr. O'Shea arrived on the maternity ward clad in a parka and a stocking hat that kept popping off the top of his head. The best part of that particular visit was that the good doctor pronounced my son the spitting image of himself (both of them Irish and red-headed). A high-school graduate at 16, a Harvard grad at 20, and an M.D. at 24, Dr. O'Shea was sweet and down-to-earth. We mourn his passing.

Thoughts and prayers to Dr. O'Shea and his family. I remember this gentle man growing up in Peabody. I went to either Dr. O'Shea or Dr. Sirois for years at the One Roosevelt location. I remember when I seriously cut my elbow and was rushed to Dr. O'Shea's office. It was a very bad cut that required surgery. I was a young kid and Dr. O'Shea joked with me that I was ruining his new carpet to keep me from thinking of the serious nature of the injury. God Bless

Joyce and I extend to Dr. O'Shea's family, our sincere condolences in their loss of a great man indeed. How many of those, whose lives he touched, recall with fond memory, as we do, the evenings when he would come by to treat an ear-ache of one of our boys...and it always happened on a Sunday night, but he would sit over a cup of coffee and discuss with us the topic of the day and with words of comfort and reassurance he would devote to us, those moments with sincerity. I am sure that his reward awaits him for his years of caring for others...Deacon Leo Martin

So sorry to read about Dr. O'Shea's passing. There was NEVER a better pediatrician. Thanks to him, bothh my children, now 31 and 28 are healthy. When younger, this wasn't the case. There was never a bad time to see him, including many ''late night'' visits. When other doctors would not think anything was wrong, Dr. O'Shea would know that the parents know better than anyone, and would NOT stop until a proper diagnosis was made. I don't think that there ever was more of a caring person than Doc. I do hope that his ''final years'' were filled with much happiness, love and contentment. No one would have deserved it more than Dr. O'Shea. May he rest in peace.

Dr. O'Shea was my pediatrician. What a wonderful man. I was an only child and lived alone my mother. One weekend he invited us to his pool in Lynnfield with his family. I never forgot that! Later on I was working at Brooksby Village when he moved in. Whenever children would visit Brooksby, he would correctly guess their age and engage each of them in a spirited discussion. What a dear man. He will always be remembered fondly by this former patient.

Sure enough, at 10:45 P.M., after having put in a full day at the office and making rounds at the hospital, Dr. O'Shea, jovial and thorough as ever, gave my daughter her first physical on the kitchen table.
