Obituary of Dr. Thomas H. O'Shea

Dr. Thomas H. O’Shea PEABODY—Dr. Thomas H. O’Shea, 83, beloved husband of the late Patricia (Ferguson) O’Shea, died peacefully Christmas morning December 25, 2012 at the Renaissance Gardens at Brooksby Village in Peabody. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Mary (McDonald) O’Shea. He grew up in Peabody where he attended St. John’s School. Later in life he lived in Lynnfield for many years while his sons grew up, then moved back to Peabody and lived at Brooksby Village for 10 years since they were established. He graduated from St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Class of 1946. Subsequently he graduated from Harvard University, Class of 1950 and Boston University School of Medicine 1954. His Internship was served with Temple University Hospital, and Residency with St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and Boston Floating Hospital. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served an interim post with the U.S. Naval Hospital in Newport, RI before establishing his office on the North Shore. Dr. O’Shea operated his practice in Pediatrics based in Peabody for 40 years. However, “Doc” served thousands of young patients throughout the North Shore. His “house calls” were visits of comfort and joy for many families long after this practice became a thing of the past. He took pride in the fact that nearly 20 of his former patients have gone on to success in the medical profession which he loved. He was very dedicated to his family, devoted to his faith, and offered time to the greater North Shore community. He was involved with numerous organizations, and was a Trustee and Board of Directors with the Warren Bank which became TD Banknorth and was a Cub Master with Cub Scouts in Lynnfield. He was an avid reader and enjoyed going to theater and traveling. He is survived by three sons, Deacon Thomas H. O’Shea & his wife Carol of Lynnfield, Brian G. O’Shea of Dallas, TX and Kevin P. O’Shea & his wife Karen of Great Falls, VA; five grandchildren, Molly and Thomas F. O’Shea of Lynnfield, and Thomas P., Mark and Catherine O’Shea of VA; his special companion Marie Allard of Peabody; a brother-in-law, Walter Landergan of Peabody, and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, and sisters Dr. Kathleen T. O’Shea and Mary Beth Landergan. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Saturday December 29, 2012 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be on Friday from 4 – 8 P.M. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
