Obituary of Louis C. Bakula

Louis C. Bakula PEABODY—Louis C. Bakula, 102, beloved husband of the late Marcia (Ogilba) Bakula, died peacefully on Sunday March 24, 2013 at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris, ME following an extended illness. Born in Hyde Park area of Boston, he was the son of the late John and Blanche (Sczepp) Bakula. He grew up in Hyde Park and graduated from Hyde Park High School. He then studied at Northeastern University, and with the Coast Guard Radio School in Connecticut. He lived in Peabody for many years, and recently moved up to Maine. He was a veteran of the Korean War with service in the United States Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy. Mr. Bakula was an HVAC Engineer with Stressinger, Adams, Megguire & Reidy of Boston for many years. Louis was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Peabody, the American Legion Post 150 in Mechanic Falls, ME, the Korean War Veterans Association (KWVA), and the Greybeards. He was a long time stamp collector, coin collector, and collecting first day magazine issues, and was an avid football fan. His great passion was oil and watercolor paintings. On his behalf, the family wants to thank the staff at the Veteran’s Home in South Paris Maine. A special thanks to all the ladies in C-Unit for making his stay and last days comfortable. Remember ladies, he would say, “I’ll always be picking flowers for you.” He is survived by three children, Carole Bakula of West Poland, ME, Richard & his wife Priscilla Bakula of Peabody and Thomas Bakula and his partner Patricia Day of Salem; three grandchildren, Debra Lipsky of Houlton, ME, Peter Bakula of Peabody, and Barbara (Searle) Weadick of North Reading, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday March 27, 2013 at 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 PM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:30 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Post 150, 49 Elm St., Mechanic Falls, ME 04256.
