Elaine B. “Bunny” (Hayes) Marotta
PEABODY—Elaine B. “Bunny” (Hayes) Marotta, 75, beloved wife of Michael Marotta of Peabody, died peacefully on Tuesday April 30, 2013 at the Twin Oaks Nursing Home in Danvers following a brief illness.
Born in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Hartigan) Hayes. She grew up there and attended Chelsea High School. She lived in Peabody for nearly 50 years.
Mrs. Marotta worked in the Peabody and Lynnfield Public School Systems in the Cafeteria.
Bunny was passionate and dedicated to her family. She supported all the activities of Michael and Nancy, and was a Cheerleading Coach at Bishop Fenwick and Peabody High Schools. She especially cherished all her grandchildren, and her recent great-granddaughter. She will be dearly missed by everyone she knew, and they are grateful for the memories.
She is survived by her husband Michael Marotta, Jr. of Peabody, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage; a son Michael Marotta (Ironworker, Local 7) and his fiancée Christine of Everett; a daughter, Nancy Spignese and her husband Anthony of Danvers; three grandchildren, Erin Powers, and Anthony & Jake Spignese; her great-granddaughter Riley Harper Ortega; her brothers Jack Hayes of Melrose, Robert Hayes of Montgomery, MA and Jimmy Haggerty of Chelsea; a sister Patricia Nolan of Malden, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son John Marotta, and sister Eleanor Waitte.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday May 3, 2013 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Thursday May 2nd from 4 – 8 P.M. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
